Have you ever been wondering how to improve the quality of your digital drawings? Basically, to do that you need to cover the foundations of your artwork before you even start sketching. Here are some steps you can take to prepare yourself. If you apply them in the process of creating your art, I guarantee you’ll notice the improvement in the quality of your drawings. Let’s start then!
Try to describe your artwork in a few key points before you start drawing. This is a kind of brainstorming session. It’ll help with visualizing what you’re about to be creating and with getting all your ideas out of your head onto a paper.
Need an example? Take a look at some of my personal notes for the two of my artworks:
I must admit that I totally LOVE getting into the process of creating mood boards! You can quickly make a simple mood board related to your artwork ideas. Choose a color palette you want to use. Try to find as many inspirations as you can regarding your individual vision. Use some photos, shapes, and colors from google images, Pinterest, or other places. Depending on the topic of your drawing you can pay attention to interesting human poses, color combinations, scenes, or environmental ideas. The only limit is your imagination!
It’s really important to remember about the environment influencing the character. You can see that I added some red/blue light on the hair and skin of my space girls as a reflection of the cosmic surrounding. This is the secret key to bring your characters to life and make your art look more professional.
These tips were inspired by one of my favorite artist’s tutorial Josiah Brooks (Jazza) called Mastering Illustration: Sketching, Inking & Color Essentials. Click here to check this one out on Skillshare! I promise you won’t regret it! π
Hope you’ll find those tips useful π
